FICO-911
The Ultimate Solution to ALL Derogatory Credit History
Judgments
How long does a judgment stay on a credit report?
A judgment remains on a consumer credit report for 7 years for the date of entry, or until the governing statute of limitations has expired, whichever is longer. This time period applies to each legal action. Under certain circumstances and state laws judgments can be renewed. The renewal of a judgment would allow it to show on a credit report for 7 years from the date of renewal, if allowed by state law.
What happens after I pay/settle a judgment? Is it removed from my report?
Paid or settled judgments are not removed from credit reports. They will be updated to a "Paid" or "Settled" status. Judgments are still derogatory credit information and seriously impact your FICO score. There is no such thing as perfect payment history on a judgment. If a judgment exists it is derogatory.
Can you permanently delete a judgment?
Yes. We permanently delete paid or unpaid judgments from your credit report. Your judgment, however, will still remain in the original court records. Fortunately, lenders do not research court records when determining credit worthiness. They rely solely upon the information in your credit report.
How long will it take to remove my judgment?
Average time is 10-12 business days per judgment. See the "Timing" information on our Overview page.
